Dr. Ken Bedell

DVM

Dr. Bedell grew up in the Endless Mountain region of Pennsylvania, surrounded by animals of all shapes and sizes. As a young man, he was heavily influenced by James Herriot’s books (the All Creatures Great and Small series) and he knew that he wanted to be a veterinarian when he grew up. Dr. Bedell worked in the veterinary science department while earning his degree in Animal Production from Penn State University, earned his veterinary degree at Colorado State University and took post-graduate courses in Epidemiology at Cornell University.

Dr. Bedell’s veterinary experience includes extensive work with both small and large animals. Throughout his years working as a veterinarian, Dr. Bedell has enjoyed working with not only dogs and cats and other companion animals, but also horses, goats, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, mules and the collection at Ross Park Zoo in Binghamton where he was a consultant veterinarian. Among his most rewarding experiences have been those where he has been able to use his veterinary training to help underserved communities, including work on Indian Reservations in the Dakotas, volunteer work as a surgeon for Spring Farm Cares’ feral cat program, and a two month missionary trip to Tanzania, where he provided veterinary services and training for rural residents in the care of their livestock and pets.

When not working, Dr. Bedell is playing with his dogs and cats, or riding one of his bicycles, kayaking on the local lakes and rivers, skiing or hiking in the backcountry with his wife, Lorie.
